CALDWELL ISD UPDGRADE PLAN TO BE PLACED BEFORE BURLESON CO. VOTERS TUESDAY
On Tuesday, voters in Burleson County will choose whether to sign off on an extensive upgrade plan for Caldwell ISD.
Two proposals will be presented to voters when they arrive at the polls. Proposition A calls for remodeling of the current middle school building, new construction for Pre-K to 3rd grade classrooms, and conversion of the current Intermediate school to a junior high school.
In addition, there would be renovations to the Ag classrooms and shop, new career education classrooms and science labs to the high school, electrical upgrades to the high school, a new middle school/high school gym, and resources for a new junior high band hall, locker room, and weight room. Proposition A totals $36,225,000.
Proposition B calls for refunding of money used to complete the HVAC project completed over the summer. If approved, the new bond funds would have a lower interest rate because of the guaranteeing of the notes with the Texas School Permanent Fund. Proposition B totals $3,750,000.
Caldwell’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously on August 20th to call for these two propositions on Tuesday’s ballot.
Superintendent Andrew Peters says it made sense for the district to pursue renovations and additions to the middle school building.
Peters says the additions for career education and sciences are especially important to the district.
Peters says, over the past year and a half, the board has done a good job of listening to the community. He believes that these requests are “community-driven”.
If the bond is passed, the funds would be available to the district beginning in February of 2019. Peters expects construction of the projects would begin in September.
