BLINN TO OFFER NURSING TRANSITION COURSES IN SPRING
Starting in January, Blinn in Brenham will begin offering courses for licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) wanting to become registered nurses.
The LVN-Transition program seeks to prepare those who have nursing experience and a license to practice as an LVN to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
Blinn’s blended, evening courses in Brenham will allow students to work during the day, attend one face-to-face session per week in the evening, and complete the rest of the coursework online.
Blinn will offer two of the prerequisite courses needed to enroll in the transition program: Pharmacology and Pathophysiology. Each of the courses will begin Monday, January 14th and run through May 9th. Students must complete 31 hours in prerequisite courses to enroll in the program.
Students that complete the program and pass the licensure exam are qualified for a variety of nursing positions, including pediatric, geriatric, hospice, school, and clinical nursing. New graduates can expect to earn an average of $70,000 per year.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses is expected to grow 15 percent between 2016 and 2026 due to the increased emphasis on preventative care, growing rates of chronic conditions, and demand for healthcare services.
