BRENHAM F.D. ASSISTS WITH OIL SPILL CLEANUP

  

The Brenham Fire Department was sent out Tuesday afternoon to help clean up an oil spill.

Around 2:55 p.m., units were dispatched to the intersection of State Highway 36 South and FM 109, to a trailer reportedly leaking gasoline.  When they arrived, they found a vacuum trailer leaking an oil sludge on the highway.

Brenham police had the highway shut down due to the spill, and a HAZ-MAT company was called in to clean up the spill.  The truck leaking was owned by Midway Energy Service.

The sludge was not dangerous, but when mixed with rain it could have caused the highway to become slick.  The northbound lane was closed for several hours.
