Investigators are looking into whether anyone will face charges in the fatal accident earlier this week on FM 2621 in Washington County.

DPS troopers are still determining the cause of the rollover crash that killed an infant and sent several other people to the hospital. The accident happened Monday night around 8 p.m. in the 10000 block of FM 2621.

According to DPS Sergeant Jimmy Morgan, 23-year-old Albany Cooper of Brenham was driving her 2006 Chevy Equinox east on FM 2621, when she failed to negotiate a curve. Cooper’s vehicle left the road, crashed through a fence and rolled over several times.

Two children were ejected from the vehicle: two-month-old Kayce Cooper and three-year-old Karter Cooper-Crawford, both of Brenham. Kayce Cooper was Life Flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he later died from his injuries.  Karter Cooper-Crawford was transported to CHI St. Joseph’s in Bryan, where Sgt. Morgan says he is still in serious condition.

The two adults in the vehicle, Albany Cooper and 19-year-old Diamond Phillips of Fort Worth, were also taken to CHI St. Joseph’s, but have been released. Another child in the vehicle, one-year-old Naveah Carter of Brenham, was treated for minor injuries and released.

Sgt. Morgan says the accident is still under investigation, with detectives looking into why two of the children in the vehicle were ejected. Troopers say there were child safety seats at the scene, but they may not have been installed correctly.  They also say the infant and three-year-old were not properly secured.

Sgt. Morgan says once troopers complete their investigation, they will present their findings to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, who will determine if any charges are brought forth.
