BRENHAM COUNCILMEMBERS RECEIVE UPDATE ON CORONAVIRUS
The City of Brenham is very much aware of the coronavirus and the impact it is having worldwide.
That is what City Manager James Fisher had to say during his administrative report to the Brenham City Council at its meeting Thursday.
Fisher told the council that letters were sent out Thursday to all city employees regarding the coronavirus, informing them that the city is actively monitoring the situation and doing everything it can to stay on top of it.
Fisher said the city is actively keeping up with the latest information on the virus, making sure public buildings are cleaned to the best of their abilities, and that hand sanitizer is readily available. He also said three staff members will be attending a seminar on the virus in the near future.
Fisher concluded by saying the city is doing all it can to stay informed about this “incident” and will respond accordingly.
New cases of the coronavirus have been popping up left and right, with widespread concerns about the virus. Thursday, Harris County health officials confirmed four new cases of the disease, all involving people in their 60s who were exposed during a trip to Egypt last month. A case was confirmed Wednesday in a 70-year-old Fort Bend man who also went to Egypt. According to Houston media reports, the five contracted the virus independently of one another, and developed respiratory symptoms after returning to Texas.
Around the world, the number of coronavirus cases has passed 100,000, with the number of deaths exceeding 3,200.
Also during his report, Fisher announced that there is a joint meeting with Washington County Commissioners and TxDOT scheduled for Thursday, April 9th, to discuss the Highway 290 cloverleaf project. A town hall meeting on the cloverleaf will be held the following Tuesday, on April 14th.
