BRYAN WOMAN DROWNS AT LAKE SOMERVILLE

  

A Bryan woman died over the weekend after drowning at Lake Somerville.

Saturday evening, at approximately 7 p.m., the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person who was last seen in the water near Birch Creek Park.  Witnesses reported that a group of individuals were on a boat several hundred yards from shore.

According to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, one of the individuals, identified as 30-year-old Olivia Paige Sweeney, was swimming near the boat and was seen going underwater, but she did not resurface.

Emergency personnel suspended their search at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, but continued at daybreak.  At 12:15 p.m., Sweeney’s body was recovered near where she was last seen.

Sweeney’s body has been taken for autopsy to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Somerville and Birch Creek Fire Departments, CHI St. Joseph’s EMS, PHI Air Med 7, Washington County’s Air Unit, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
