BURTON CITY COUNCIL ONCE AGAIN TABLES MANUFACTURED HOME ORDINANCE

  

The third time was not the charm for the Burton City Council Tuesday regarding the city’s manufactured home ordinance.

The council once again moved to table the ordinance, which has been the subject of the council’s last three regular meetings and workshop discussions.

The council did vote to explore other options for the ordinance, with proposed suggestions including holding a town meeting to get the thoughts of citizens on the matter, or meeting with an attorney to discuss disallowing mobile homes in designated zoning areas.

Councilmember Paul McLaughlin expressed his favor of the ordinance, and made a motion to prevent mobile homes from being located within city limits, but the motion died without a second.  Councilmember Tommie Gilmon vocalized her support of mobile homes, saying while some limits on where they are located could be appropriate, they should not be prohibited entirely.

Existing mobile homes would be grandfathered under the ordinance as it is currently being discussed.

In other action Tuesday, the council approved a request to place a 14-foot by 8-foot storage shed at 416 South Main Street.
