HEMPSTEAD HOSTING 31ST ANNUAL WATERMELON FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

  

Downtown Hempstead is getting ready for the 31st Annual Watermelon Festival.

Two full days of entertainment await festivalgoers this Friday and Saturday, including live music, barbecue cook-offs, a classic car show, a queen’s coronation, a quilt show and a parade.

Friday night will feature a performance from the Brown Sugar Band, while Saturday will have The Pee Wee Bowen Band, Cosmic Cowboy Revival and Glen Templeton take the stage.

Saturday morning’s parade will start at 9:30 a.m., lining up on San Antonio Street and ending at the gazebo in downtown Hempstead.

Other planned activities include shows from The Ole West Gunfighters, a cornhole tournament, a coloring contest and shopping at various vendors.
