TxDOT TO REPLACE HIGHWAY 290-FM 1155 TRAFFIC SIGNAL NEXT WEEK

TxDOT will replace the traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1155 in Chappell Hill next week.

The project will begin on Monday, and the new permanent signal is expected to be complete by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A temporary signal has been in place at the intersection since April, when the original signal was damaged in a six-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler.

Drivers should watch for lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.  Local law enforcement will assist with the lane closures.

The project is contracted to Traf-Tex for $106,000.

  1. I doubt very seriously anyone from TXDOT will see this, but I have a suggestion. I know the state is required to get bids and find the best deal for the taxpayers before replacing a traffic signal in a situation like this, and that this bogs the timeline for replacing it down quite a bit. Is it possible, though, to have this kind of contract or bid in place before the crashes happen? Not going to be a perfect solution, obvuosly, as no two crashes or disasters are the same, but it would seem to be in the better interest of the state and the traffic on these roads to have the light fixed quickly, and pay the difference in the estimated work costs after the fact. This particular light has been down since Good Friday, and the temporary fix, while better than a simple stop sign, has definitely been lower quality than that intersection needs

    1. And the accident that caused the damage to the light has not changed anything. Cars and semis continue to run the red light eastbound and westbound
