AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN IN MARCH

  

The unemployment rate for Washington County is down for the second straight month.

March’s countywide unemployment rate, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, was 3.6 percent, a drop from 4.4 percent in February.

The number of unemployed residents in the county fell from 654 in February to 551 last month.

March saw 14,631 residents employed out of a civilian labor force of 15,182.  The month prior had 14,366 employed residents and a civilian labor force of 15,020.

In March 2021, the county reported a jobless rate of 5.7 percent and 891 people out of work.

The statewide unemployment rate also declined in March to 4.4 percent, from 4.7 percent in February.

Regional unemployment rates include:

  • Austin County – 3.8 percent, down from 4.6 percent in February.
  • Brazos County – 2.8 percent, down from 3.4 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.3 percent, down from 4.2 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.1 percent, down from 3.8 percent in February.
  • Grimes County – 4.6 percent, down from 5.8 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.2 percent, down from 4 percent.
  • Waller County – 4.2 percent, down from 5.1 percent.
