BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTS BID FOR ROAD RESURFACING

Six street sections in Brenham will soon receive upgrades.

The Brenham City Council on Thursday accepted a bid from Clark Construction of Texas to perform Onyx Resurfacing on Spinn Street, Tison Street, LJ Street, Hillside Drive, Clearspring Drive and Robinhood Road.  Work will take place between August and September.

Public Works Director Dane Rau said eight streets were initially planned to be addressed, but the city had to postpone work on Pecan Street and Atlow Drive in order to stay within the $250,000 budget for the project.

The full bid for the road resurfacing project was $305,809.  However, a change order approved by the council brought down the cost to $230,263.

Clark Construction will perform spot repairs on street sections considered not structurally sound, and the city’s street department will level up low areas or utility cuts.  The roadways will be sealed off with two coats of aggregate material applied with oil.

Clark Construction was the lone bidder for the project.  Rau attributed this to the amount of work currently available to contractors and the small size of this project compared to other, larger cities.
