WASHINGTON CO. MAN SENTENCED IN BRAZOS CO. FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

  

A Washington man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty last week to a domestic violence charge in Brazos County.

35-year-old Chester Coleman III was charged with Assault Family Violence with a Previous Conviction in 2019.  The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office says Coleman assaulted his ex-girlfriend at her apartment in College Station.

Prosecutors say on February 24, 2019, College Station police responded to the apartment for a report of an attempted break-in.  The victim stated that Coleman tried to kick down her door, but officers were unable to serve a criminal trespass warning as he had fled the scene.  They did, however, warn him to not come back to the apartment.

According to the district attorney’s office, Coleman returned to the apartment complex on March 26, 2019 and assaulted the victim as she tried to enter her apartment.  She was treated at the scene and later taken to College Station Medical Center, while police attempted to find Coleman, who had once again fled. 

College Station police issued an arrest warrant for Coleman, who was taken into custody by Brenham police on May 29, 2019.

As part of Coleman’s plea, he agreed to a lifetime protective order preventing him from having any contact with the victim. 

Prosecutors say Coleman previously served three years in prison for a domestic violence case out of Washington County.
