NEW WATER, SEWER RATES FOR BURTON RESIDENTS GO INTO EFFECT MARCH 15

City of Burton residents will see their water and sewer rates go up next week.

Last month, the Burton City Council approved a rate increase that goes into effect on Wednesday, March 15th.  The increases will be seen on customers’ utility bills that will be due in April.

A notice sent to customers says the higher rates are due to “an extreme increase” in cost over the past year for operating, repairing and maintaining the city’s utility systems.

For water service, the new rates include a minimum charge of $40 per month.  Water will be $2.80 per 1,000 gallons for the first 4,000 gallons.  The rate will go up to $3 per 1,000 gallons for service between 4,001 and 10,000 gallons.  After 10,001 gallons, the cost will be $3.25 per 1,000 gallons.

Sewer rates will have no minimum charge.  A flat fee of $35 per month will be charged to accounts up to 4,000 gallons.  From 4,001 to 10,000 gallons, the rate will be $3 per 1,000 gallons, going up to $3.25 per 1,000 gallons for service between 10,001 and 30,000 gallons.  Beyond 30,001 gallons, customers will be charged $3.75 per 1,000 gallons.

Previous monthly rates were $23 for sewer and $32 for water, including up to 4,000 gallons.

The new rates were calculated after a rate study conducted by City of Burton Utility Clerk Rachel Belvin, under the guidance of the Texas Rural Water Association.

Customers now have the option of managing their utility accounts and paying their bills online through Nexbillpay.  They can go online to https://nexbillpay.net/burtoncityutilities to create an account.
