BURTON PANTHERS SPLIT GAMES ON FIRST DAY OF WEIMAR TOURNAMENT
The Burton Panthers split their two games on the first day of the Weimar Tournament on Thursday. In the opener, they lost to the Lexington Eagles 7-6. The Panthers would then come back to defeat the Bosqueville Bulldogs 10-6.
The Bulldogs got on the board with a run in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the inning, Vicente Veliz led it off with a triple to right field. Two batters later, Pierson Spies doubled to left , which scored Veliz, and tied the game 1-1. Kaiden Kalkhake was hit by a pitch. Colby Beck then put the Panthers in front with a single to score Fritsch. Carson Lauter was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bryson Biggs followed with a two run single that scored Kalkhake and Beck. Brady Griffin then executed a suicide squeeze to score Lauter to make it 5-1 Burton.
Then during the second inning, Chet Fritsch and Kaiden Kalkhake had back-to-back singles. Fritsch later scored on a pass ball to put Burton ahead 6-1.
In the bottom of the third, the Panthers loaded the bases on a single by Beck, a walk by Lauter, and Bryson Biggs getting hit by a pitch. Veliz hit a two-run single that scored Beck and Lauter to put Burton up 8-1.
Bosqueville scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-3.
Burton would get two more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth. Fritsch led off the inning with a walk, and then Kalkhake hit an RBI double to score him. Brady Griffin singled to score Kalkhake and give the Panthers a 10-3 lead.
Bosqueville scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the Burton lead to 10-6, but that would be as close as they come.
