GIDDINGS BANK ROBBERY SOLVED AFTER INMATE MAKES CONFESSION
A Giddings bank robbery has been solved 15 years after it happened.
According to the Giddings Times, Patrick Scott Bigelow recently confessed to robbing the Capital One Bank in Giddings on February 6, 2008.
Bigelow, who was already been in prison for charges of bank robbery, carjacking, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, made the confession in the 21st District Court in front of Judge Carson Campbell.
The 2008 robbery was unrelated to the charges that he was already in prison for.
The confession was part of a plea bargain for 14 years in prison with credit for 14 years of time already served.
The Capital One Bank, which is no longer in business in Giddings, was one of a series of at least seven robberies that occurred over a two month span.
Bigelow, aka “The Bearded Bandit”, wore disguises including fake beards to hide his identity.
The robbery spree, according to then-Sheriff Rodney Meyer, is believed to have included banks in Schulenburg, Sealy, Columbus, College Station, Galveston, and Houston.
The crime spree ended when Bigelow was arrested while attempting to rob the Wells Fargo Bank in Brookshire.
