JUNE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES UP IN AREA
June unemployment rose in Washington and most surrounding counties, the second straight month of increased jobless rates.
Per data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County reported 5.1 percent unemployment last month, up from 4.2 percent the month prior.
The county’s number of unemployed residents grew from 634 in May to 781 in June.
However, overall employment numbers and the total civilian labor force also increased over the same time frame. The county’s employment went from 14,523 to 14,641, while the civilian labor force went up from 15,157 to 15,422.
In June 2022, the unemployment rate for Washington County was 4.6 percent, with 707 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4.1 percent from May to June.
Looking at the area’s jobless rates for June:
- Austin County – 4.1 percent, up from 3.8 percent in May.
- Brazos County – 3.6 percent, up from 3.2 percent.
- Burleson County – 4.0 percent, up from 3.6 percent.
- Fayette County – 3.7 percent, unchanged from May.
- Grimes County – 4.9 percent, up from 4.7 percent.
- Lee County – 3.6 percent, no difference from May.
- Waller County – 4.9 percent, up from 4.5 percent.
