CUBS SEASON ENDS WITH A 28-14 LOSS TO RANDLE
An incredible season came to an end for the Brenham Cub Football Team this (Saturday) afternoon with a 28-14 Region Semifinal loss to the Richmond Randle Lions.
Randle got the scoring started in the first half with 24-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Skrabanek to to Jaxon Montelongo. Christian Munguia added the extra point to give the Lions a 7-0 lead with 2:21 left in the first quarter.
The Lions got the ball back and quickly scored again on a 10-yard touchdown run by Landen Williams-Callis to increase their lead to 14-0 with four seconds to go in the first quarter.
Randle also had the only score in the second quarter on an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Sean Smith to give the Lions a 21-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
Brenham finally got on the scoreboard with 53 seconds left in the third quarter. Xyran Upshaw lined up in the "Wildcub" formation, but instead of running the ball, he found Chris Guidry on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Bleu Cienega added the extra point to make it 21-7.
The Cubs would score again in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Harvey to Cartelle Brown, and a Cienega PAT to cut the lead to a 21-14 with 6:39 left.
However, Skranbanek would find Williams on a 73-yard touchdown pass with 4:58 left in the game. That gave Randle a 28-14 lead, which would be the final score.
Brenham never gave up, and kept fighting until the end. During the postgame interview, Head Coach Danny Youngs promised that they will be back next season.
He also thanked the players and his assistant coaches for all the hard work that they put in this season.
The Cubs played without starting RB Jakoby Dixon, who continues to recover from a knee injury. The running game was non-existent with Brenham carrying the ball 29 times for -15 yards.
The Cubs relied heavily on the passing game with Jordan Harvey throwing for 233 yards and a touchdown. The yardage, put him over 2,000 passing yards for the season.
Chris Guidry had his biggest game of the year with 10 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Brenham finishes the year with an 11-2 record, which is the most wins since the 2013 team that went to the State Championship Game against Aledo.
Randle now moves on to face Iowa Colony in the Regional Championship next week.
