WASHINGTON CO. SCRAP TIRE CLEANUP EVENT COLLECTS NEARLY 1,700 TIRES
Washington County officials are calling their recent scrap tire collection event a “huge success.”
In October, the county partnered with BVR Waste and Recycling to host a county-wide scrap tire collection event at no charge to participants.
A press release from Washington County Environmental Health Director Mark Marzahn says approximately 1,659 tires were brought in by 285 people, removing 52,880 pounds of waste from the community.
County Engineer Wesley Stolz recapped the event during Tuesday’s county commissioners meeting, saying it has made a difference over time in helping to clean up Washington County.
Per the release, the county’s tire collection vendor, Liberty Tire Recycling, annually collects and processes more than 205 million tires, turning them into a variety of products and materials and keeping more than 4.3 billion pounds of rubber out of landfills last year.
The county thanks everyone who participated and helped to make the event successful.
