FEBRUARY SALES TAX REBATES UP ACROSS WASHINGTON CO.
All sales and tax distributions in Washington County saw notable growth in the month of February.
The county reported a February rebate of $529,909, up 23.47 percent from the $429,160 it collected in February 2024. So far this year, the county has received $884,423, an increase of 8.56 percent from the $814,629 brought in during the first two months of 2024.
The City of Brenham received a rebate of $1,259,798 this month, which is 32.83 percent more than the $948,408 taken in last February. Through 2025, the city received $2,054,207, a 14.48 percent increase when compared to $1,794,237 through February 2024.
The City of Burton’s rebate this month was $17,248, 19.91 percent up from the $14,383 rebate reported for February of last year. To date, the city’s collections total $26,593, a 9.05 percent bump up from this time last year, when the city had tallied $24,385.
According to Comptroller Glenn Hegar, the state paid out $1.5 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, 9.4 percent more than February of last year and up 5.4 percent for 2025 to date.
February’s allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2024 sales by businesses that report tax annually.
