JENNIFER ECKERMANN RETIRING AS BRENHAM’S TOURISM & MARKETING DIRECTOR
City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann is retiring.

City of Brenham as she is recognized by the
Brenham City Council on Thursday, ahead of her
upcoming retirement as Tourism and Marketing
Director.
The Brenham City Council honored Eckermann today (Thursday) for her contributions to the city and Washington County since first joining the City of Brenham on June 21, 1999. Eckermann’s final day with the city will be May 30th.
City Manager Carolyn Miller said Eckermann has displayed “passion and pride” for Brenham, helping shape it into “a vibrant tourism destination.”
Eckermann was initially hired as Main Street Manager, with a focus on revitalizing downtown Brenham and the city’s Main Street program. She was promoted in 2018 to her current role of Tourism and Marketing Director, where she oversees the Barnhill Center, the Visitor Center and many tourism initiatives. She was instrumental in Brenham being certified as a Texas Music Friendly and Texas Film Friendly community, and was heavily involved in the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program coming to Brenham this past winter.
Eckermann has earned numerous accolades, most recently being honored by the Texas Historical Commission as the winner of the Anice B. Read Award of Excellence in Community Heritage Development. She is also the recipient of the Texas Downtown Association’s Susan H. Campbell Award and the Washington County Woman of the Year Award.
Eckermann said it has been “an honor and a pleasure” to serve Brenham in this role, as she loves the community, its history and potential, and especially the people.
Mayor Atwood Kenjura said Eckermann will be missed, as she truly cherishes the community, and that care is evident in everything she does.
A retirement reception for Eckermann will be held on May 29th from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Barnhill Center’s Bullock Ballroom.
She has done a wonderful job for our city.
She will be missed.
