CITY OF SNOOK WELCOMES FIRST POLICE CHIEF, RECEIVES DONATION OF PATROL VEHICLE
The newly-created Snook Police Department has its first police chief and first police vehicle.
The Snook City Council on Monday approved the hiring of Dr. Steven Huron, who served for 24 years with the San Antonio Police Department prior to retiring as a sergeant in 2019. He has also been an instructor at Northwest Vista College, East Texas A&M University and Northeast Lakeview College, and he has a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Keiser University.
Dr. Huron calls the chance to create a police department from the ground up the “opportunity of a lifetime”. He prioritizes using scientific- and evidence-based practices, saying they are an effective deterrent in fighting crime and will lay a strong foundation for the future of the department.
Dr. Huron says building up the department must be done in a “thoughtful and professional manner”, and he intends to lean on mentors and state resources for support, as well as the full Burleson County community.
For now, Dr. Huron will be the only member of the Snook Police Department, and he will office out of Snook City Hall. He expects to start on June 2nd.
The city will get a jumpstart with its police department after receiving a donation from the nonprofit organization Operation Safe Shield, which presented a 2020 patrol vehicle outfitted with bullet-resistant glass.
