Camp For All, who serves thousands of campers each year at its campsite in Burton, says its new facility in Chappell Hill will increase the organization’s ability to serve children and adults with challenging illnesses, disabilities or special needs.
Camp For All President and CEO Pat Prior Sorrells says, “With Camp For All Chappell Hill, we will welcome thousands more campers each year to experience a Camp where they are celebrated for who they are and not defined by their challenges.”
According to Camp For All, the Chappell Hill campsite will sit on nearly 380 acres donated by the Charles Jago Elder Foundation, founded by Virginia and John Elder in memory of their son, Nick.
Some of the facilities and features will include 20 cabins with barrier-free bathrooms; a dining hall with multi-functional seating capacity for 400, an indoor ropes course and an event stage; a 24/7 health center; an arts and crafts barn and camper kitchen; equestrian design throughout the camp; a large lake for water activities; a pool with a lazy river, wheelchair accessibility, and a mechanical lift pool with beach-style entry; outdoor activities including archery, a ropes course, climbing wall, zip lines, and rope swing; and an amphitheater for outdoor events.
Architect Peter Boudreaux of Curry Boudreaux Architects, who served as the architect for Camp For All in Burton, is designing the Chappell Hill campsite. Tellepsen will act as the general contractor for the majority of the project and will oversee all major facilities, with the exceptions of the cabins and the equine barn. Camden will lead construction of the cabins, while Rhodes Building Systems will serve as the general contractor for the equine barn.
Development of the new campsite will be funded through the Blazing New Trails capital campaign. Camp For All says a significant portion of the $61.3 million needed to bring the site to life has already been raised. Camp For All Board Chair Matt Mogas says, “The campaign has been fueled by the remarkable generosity of donors who recognize the profound impact of barrier free Camp experiences. Their gifts have created momentum for enabling even more campers to unlock a world of possibilities at a second innovative Camp created for them.”
Approximately 5 percent remains to fully reach the goal, supporting construction, the expansion of programming, recruiting and training staff, and ensuring long-term sustainability for both the Chappell Hill and Burton locations.
The new site is expected to open in summer 2027.
