BURTON SOFTBALL’S SEASON ENDS WITH LOSSES TO SHINER
The 2026 softball season came to end for the Burton Lady Panthers last (Thursday) night as they were swept by the Shiner Lady Comanches.
The Lady Comanches took the first game 8-2 and then won the second game as well 11-5.
In the first game, Shiner jumped out to a 5-0 lead. They scored two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, and two runs in the fifth inning.
Burton got their only runs of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Lexi Broesche singled and then Amaya Williams followed with a two-run homer, her 22nd of the season.
Shiner scored three more in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 8-2 win.
Lexi Broesche took the loss in the circle.

In the second game, Shiner scored four runs in the first inning. Burton got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning. Paige Fritsch reached on a fielder's choice, and later scored on an RBI single by Leilah Ellis.
The Lady Comanches added three runs in the second, and one in the third to increase their lead to 8-1.
The Lady Panthers came back with a run in the bottom of the third, as Amaya Williams hit a solo homer, her 23rd of the season to cut the lead to 8-2.
After a scoreless fourth inning on both sides, Shiner would score again in the top of the fifth inning to make it 9-2.
Burton scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kelsey Landriault and Williams walked. Natalie Hodde followed that up by slugging a two-run double to score them both, and cut the lead down to 9-4.
The Lady Comanches tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it an 11-4 game.
The Lady Panthers managed to get one more run in the bottom of the sixth. Melanie Wood reached on a double, and later she scored on an RBI double by Willams, which made it 11-5.
That would be as close as Burton would get as Shiner won the game and got the sweep. They will now move on to the State Semifinals where they will face the winner of Woden and Como-Pickton.
The season ends for the Lady Panthers with a record of 21-14.
