As Washington County Commissioner Kirk Hanath steps down from his commissioner seat in preparation for the role of county judge next year, the court honored Hanath today (Tuesday) for his years of service.
Hanath was presented a proclamation read by County Judge John Durrenberger, recognizing Hanath for his over 20 years of service in the role after taking office in 2005. Today was Hanath’s last official meeting as Precinct 3 Commissioner before Chad Dismukes is sworn into the position on Friday.
Hanath said time and collaboration are key to public service, and he believes the teamwork demonstrated across the county makes the future bright.

Hanath is set to be sworn in as county judge at the beginning of 2027.
Commissioners will hold a special meeting on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the Washington County Courthouse Commissioners Chambers to approve the official bond for Dismukes and to continue the emergency burn ban that became effective at midnight today. Following the meeting, Dismukes will be sworn in at 5 p.m. in the County Court at Law Courtroom.
