ELECTION 2026: TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 12
As early voting progresses for the November midterm elections, KWHI is looking at races appearing on the ballot for Washington County voters.
One race of note is for Texas House District 12, comprised of Washington, Brazos, Grimes, Madison, Robertson and Walker counties.
Running for the position are Republican incumbent Trey Wharton and Democratic challenger Andie Ho. Wharton was first elected in 2024.
Trey Wharton is the owner of Wharton Insurance Network based out of Huntsville and is a former Huntsville ISD trustee and board president. Wharton says he wants to continue his work for the house district and ensure that its constituents are heard and not ignored.
Some of Wharton’s priorities include property tax relief and finding other revenue sources to alleviate tax burdens, border security, rural health support and protecting hospitals, preserving water resources, and affordability.
As Wharton seeks a second term, he says his professional and service background, combined with the connections he has made, will continue to be valuable resources.
Andie Ho is a translator, translating business documents from French to English for businesses and corporations in Europe and North America. The daughter of immigrants, Ho chose to run because she is frustrated with the direction that the state and country have moved, and she is running on a platform of people over party.
Ho’s points of emphasis include supporting public schools and repealing the school voucher program, greater public involvement and transparency regarding the SpaceX Terafab project in Grimes County, keeping everyday costs manageable, and tackling the spread of New World screwworm.
Ho believes government has gotten away from regular citizens and wants to put the power back into their hands.
Early voting runs through next Friday, October 30th. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
