TEXAS HOUSE OKs ‘SANCTUARY CITY’ BAN

The Texas House approved a strict ban on “sanctuary cities” early this (Thursday) morning.

The 93-54 vote followed more than 15 hours of emotional debate.

Senate Bill 4, authored by Senator Charles Perry, would mandate local law enforcement comply with all ICE detainer requests. The state could withhold funding from local governments for acting as sanctuary cities.

Other Republican-controlled states have pushed for similar policies, but Texas would be the first where police chiefs and sheriffs could be jailed for not helping enforce immigration law.

The Senate has already passed a similar bill. A conference committee of lawmakers appointed by each the House and the Senate will now meet to negotiate differences in the two chambers’ versions before getting final approval.

  1. Dont get too excited…the lawyers and activist judges havnt had their way yet…its coming

  2. It’s about time!! This makes me feel that there might be hope for our country! The only way we are going to “Make America Great” again is by forcing our government officials to enforce the laws already in place!
