BUCK, KALKHAKE, McLAUGHLIN RE-ELECTED TO BURTON CITY COUNCIL
The Burton City Council will keep the same look after Saturday’s election, as all three incumbents won another term in office.
In the mayor’s race, incumbent Karen Buck received 91 votes to challenger Jeff Eckhardt’s 40.
As the City of Burton proceeds with major projects like its new water well, Buck says she is honored to help lead the city through them.
Eckhardt was thrilled to see the level of turnout in this election. He says while the end result may not have been what he hoped for, there is still plenty of work to do for the council.
Eckhardt, who serves in Position 3 on the council, will be able to retain his seat since Burton’s councilmembers serve two year terms.
Position 1 councilmember Nathan Kalkhake was re-elected 68-54 over challenger Chuck Johnson.
Paul McLaughlin will maintain his Position 4 seat, obtaining 64 votes to 54 from challenger Berneake Gantt.
According to unofficial totals from the Washington County Elections Office, 131 votes were cast in the Burton City Council elections, including 44 during early voting and 87 on Election Day. Registered voter totals from before the start of early voting show 277 people were able to participate.
