CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS BCDC LAND PURCHASE
The Brenham City Council is expected to approve the Brenham Community Development Corporation's (BCDC) acquisition of 45 acres of land during their meeting on Friday.
The land, located at the intersection of FM 389 and FM 332 in Brenham, will be used for industrial park purposes.
In October 2016, the city council approved a promissory note between the city and the BCDC for the purchase of the land, totaling $500,000. Since that time, the city attorney has been working with the seller’s attorney to finalize the sale contract. The land transaction is scheduled to close on Friday.
Due to the amount of time between the council’s approval and the closing date of the sale, the promissory note, debt schedule, and legal description must be updated with new information.
The council will also discuss recommendations of appointments to a number of city advisory boards. Prospective board members that will be considered on Friday include:
- Johanna Fatheree- Board of Adjustments
- Keith Behrens- Planning and Zoning
- Dona Lynn Parker- Main Street Board
- Tom Whitehead- Main Street Board
Also during the meeting:
The council will discuss terminating an inter-local agreement between Washington County and the City of Brenham concerning the Critical Incident Command Unit. The termination of the contract will allow the city to sell the vehicle on GovDeals and split the proceeds 50/50 with the county.
The council will consider a service agreement with McCord Engineering, Inc. for the replacement of copper electric lines. The project will replace about 18 miles of copper conductor with aluminum.
The council will recognize the retirement of Wanda Kramer after 41 years with the City of Brenham. They will also hold a number of service recognitions including: Stephen Draehn (5 years with the Maintenance Department), David Dudenhoeffer (5 years with the Police Department), and Shawn Bolenbarr (10 years with Water/Wasterwater Construction).
The council will meet Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the second floor council chambers at City Hall.
I agree with the acquisition as it prohibits the trailer park money grabbers from expanding their footprint and also will provides for an easier development for future road widening and expansions from Hwy 290 to 36S! Sometimes you gotta read between the lines!
Easier development for future road widening and expansions from 290 to 36s? That’s a stretch since this land is on the corner of FM 389 & FM 332. Perhaps BCDC needs the land to go with the 100+ acres they own across the road, which for years has been empty, and the only thing they have done is sell fill dirt off of it.
Money grabbers . I’m sorry u fell that way but ember the wages in this town not so good maby that’s all they can aford
Use tax money to buy more land and get more taxes, that’s the tax merry-go-round, that’s how big cities get bigger. NOT BETTER.
More land to set empty (I e) look at all industrial park land no in use the employees of the city of Brenham could use this money to keep there head above water
So the taxpayers are buying land for another industrial park. Would be refreshing if they actually established large industries with good paying jobs in exchange for the nice tax breaks they give. Taxpayers are fed up with controlled wages and high property taxes. Seems like we have all the other trappings of larger cities, like a mayor, city manager, 3 assistant ant city managers and numerous directors of this and that, BUT not the wages. Brenham from the average blue collar worker does not seem that “heavenly”.
Three assistant city managers for a city our size is absurd. Once Roberts finally retires hopefully the next city manager will be a little more tax dollar conscious.
I agree! Wages here are well below the norm, and our housing and associated costs are OUTRAGEOUS! I am not sure how Brenham businesses continue to employ people!
