FIREMEN’S PARK TO GET NEW RESTROOM FACILITIES
New restroom facilities are coming to Firemen’s Park in Brenham. The Brenham City Council today (Thursday) approved a bid of $251,500 to GCP Contractors out of Needville for the restrooms. The new restrooms will replace an old restroom structure adjacent to the kitchen building. The new air conditioned facility will offer a Men’s, Women’s and Family restrooms. It will also be ADA accessible from both the playground areas and the kitchen area. Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau stated that the design and location of the restrooms would preserve the visibility between the playground, the kitchen and the parking area. Construction of the new restrooms is expected to take 4 months.
Why are we hiring a contractor from Needville? Local tax dollars should be paid to local businesses instead of sending our tax money to Needville. If you are concerned about cost wait until you see the buildings they designed, hard to believe they designed these buildings with taxpayers in mind.
Director of Public Works
The new restroom facility will be funded through the Brenham Community Development Corporation. This group receives a portion of the sales tax that is collected throughout the year to fund items related to Parks and Recreation. This does not affect the city budget. The current restrooms are experiencing some structural issues and with the kitchen facility being rented each Saturday and Sunday along with the community events and usage of this park it is time to rebuild. The current restrooms are not part of the WPA structures and the new facility will have a similar look as the kitchen. Restrooms are expensive but we will also get connectivity items with this project providing better access between the kitchen and playground that will meet ADA requirements and provide better access for all.
they need to put a restroom over by the new park considering the library isn’t always open
$251,000 for restrooms??? sounds pretty outrageous to me!
That is how we do it now. When your born with a silver spoon in your mouth and join the city government, you cant have a GOLDEN SHOVEL photo opportunity with some 50K outhouse.
Plus, marble and gold toilet seats have gone up in price.
I like improvement, but please repurpose don’t destroy a rock building.
That’s good but I can already see these being burned up & destroyed like they have all been done in the past!
