LEE CO. COURTHOUSE TEMPORARILY CLOSED, EMPLOYEES ORDERED HOME AFTER POTENTIAL COVID-19 EXPOSURE
The Lee County Courthouse has temporarily been shut down, and its employees ordered to go home, after a possible instance of COVID-19 exposure.
County Judge Paul Fischer issued an order this (Tuesday) morning mandating the courthouse be closed and its employees be sent home, because a person is being tested for COVID-19. County Medical Officer Dr. Laura Birnbaum has also advised the county to disinfect the courthouse.
Giddings Emergency Management Coordinator Spencer Schneider said it is unknown if this person was a courthouse employee or a visitor to the courthouse, and could not provide a time window for when the person may have been inside the courthouse. He said the courthouse will be shut down until the results from the person’s test come back.
Fischer said in his announcement he was advised by Dr. Birnbaum to take these measures, which he said are precautionary. He encouraged everyone to continue following Governor Greg Abbott’s orders, and said anyone who is feeling sick to stay home and contact a medical professional if they have any concerns.
