WASHINGTON CO. RIOT PARTICIPANT SENTENCED

Another Washington County Jail inmate who participated in a riot there last summer has been sentenced to prison.

20 year old Damien Rios of Brenham was one of a dozen inmates in the Washington County Jail charged with riot participation from an incident on June 17th of this year.  This week in 21st District Court in Brenham, Rios was sentenced to 12 years in state prison and ordered to pay a $2000 fine and court costs for that second degree felony.  He was also sentenced to 10 years for possession of a controlled substance – a third degree felony, from a September 2016 offense.  And Rios had his probation adjudicated and was sentenced to an additional 23 years in prison from several convictions from an October 2014 offense, including possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence – a third degree felony.

Also in 21st District Court this week, 54 year old Lawrence Wayne Shorter of Houston was sentenced to 12 months in state prison for forgery, a state jail felony.  Shorter must also pay court costs stemming from the February 10th offense from earlier this year.

18 year old Ariel Nicole Mata was sentenced to 6 years deferred adjudication probation, fined $500 and must spend 15 days in Washington County Jail for her burglary of a habitation conviction, a second degree felony.  Mata was one of four people arrested in connection with burglary of a residence in the 6100 block of Old Gay Hill Road on April 26th of this year.  She must also pay court costs, the court appointed attorney fee, $23 restitution, the $50 crime stoppers fee, perform 150 hours of community service and submit to drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment.  Mata is also not to have any contact with the victim or co-defendant in this case.

 

31 year old Christopher Joseph Salas of Luling was sentenced to 3 years deferred adjudication probation for his conviction for theft of property between $2500 and $30,000, a state jail felony.  Salas must also pay a $750 fine, $50 crime stoppers fee, perform 100 hours of community service, submit to drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment, and is not to have any contact with the victim.
