FUNDRAISING FOR NEW PRESS BOX

Alumni Field, home of the Brenham Cubette Softball Team, will be getting its first press box this summer.

When Alumni Field was built at Brenham High School in 1998, a press box was not included in the design.  New Cubette Softball Coach Katie Bush Roberts has made adding one her first priority in planned improvements to the field.  Roberts is excited that while funds to cover the entire amount of construction are still being raised, Brenham I.S.D. has agreed to start the project this summer.  She said, “The business community and the public have been extremely generous in donating to build a press box for Alumni Field.  We are using funds from our successful steak dinner fundraiser last fall, from the Cubette Alumni Association, and from businesses and individuals to make this happen.”

Blue Bell Creameries made one of the first donations of $2500 toward the press box, and the Alumni Association has committed to $10,000 over two years.  Radio Stations KTTX and KWHI are donating $2000 to cover the cost of air conditioning the facility.  Other businesses donating money, materials or labor include Lauren Concrete, Kenjura Tile, DDM, McCoy’s and Brenham First Source Electric.  An anonymous donor has also generously agreed to donate 50% of the amount remaining after all donations are received.  Anyone who would like to contribute to the project should contact Coach Roberts at kroberts@brenhamk-12.net.

Brenham I.S.D. is committed to starting construction this summer, with the school district contributing and covering the costs while more funds are raised.  Katie Burch of Plan North Architectural Company in Brenham has been designing the press box, with input from Philip Derkowski, Director of Maintenance for B.I.S.D.
