BISD TO ADOPT RESOLUTION OPPOSING A-F RATING SYSTEM

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees is expected to adopt a resolution opposing the new accountability rating system for Texas public schools during a special meeting this Thursday.

The new A-F rating system will not go into effect until August of 2018, but the state released the letter grades that Texas public school districts would have received, should the system have been in place during the 2015-2016 school year last Friday.

Brenham ISD received a “C” rating in both student achievement and student progress, a “D” in closing performance gaps, and a “C” in postsecondary readiness.

BISD Superintendent Walter Jackson issued a statement expressing the district’s opposition in November, saying that they join with the many other school districts in Texas who believe the rating system is detrimental.

In other business, the school district will discuss the Krause Elementary School maintenance and electrical repair work. The school board will also hear a preliminary audit information overview.

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees will meet at noon on Thursday in the board conference room at 711 E. Mansfield St.
