BLINN ADOPTS BUDGET–SETS TAX RATE

The Blinn College Board of Trustees adopted a budget and set a tax rate at their meeting Tuesday night.

The board approved the $106.8 million budget for Fiscal Year 2016 and proposed a tax rate of 6.01-cents per $100 valuation.

The proposed tax rate is just below the rollback rate of 6.02-cents, and is just less than a half-cent above the effective rate of 5.57-cents.

The new rate would equate to approximately $60.10 in annual taxes on a $100,000 home and would yield just under $1.8 million in revenue.

Blinn officials say if the proposed rate be adopted, Blinn would still maintain the lowest tax rate in the state.

Blinn will host hearings regarding the tax rate at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, and will vote on the matter during a regular meeting to be held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m..

All three meetings will take place in the board room on the third floor of the Brenham campus Administration Building.
