BRENHAM ISD EXTENDS JACKSON’S CONTRACT THROUGH 2020

The contract for Brenham ISD Superintendent Walter Jackson has been extended through 2020.

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees completed its annual performance review of Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson at the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday. During the executive session, the Board of Trustees discussed academic and operational performance measures and goals to be addressed for the coming year. The board commended Dr. Jackson’s leadership efforts and performance and extended his original three-year contract an additional year through 2020. There were no changes in Dr. Jackson's salary, compensation, or benefits. Dr. Jackson currently has a salary of $172,529.

Board President Natalie Lange said, “We continue to give Dr. Jackson our highest commendation for his leadership of the Brenham Public Schools. The Board continues to support his approach in moving Brenham ISD forward and appreciates his energetic and steady leadership, commitment to students, and community involvement.”

In April, Dr. Jackson will complete his second year in Brenham ISD as superintendent. Several initiatives that have been pursued under Jackson’s leadership include: addressing the five strategic goals set forth by the community and adopted by the board of trustees, the promotion of a unified Brenham culture, a focus on streamlining curriculum and instruction, beginning the process of becoming a District of Innovation, and the development of the Gateway Gifted & Talented Academy.

In other business, the board of trustees heard a review of the 2015-2016 financial audit conducted by Belt Harris Perchaek. Nathan Krupke, a partner at the firm, gave the audit report which showed that the finances of BISD were within the “recommended range”. The audit report showed there were no significant deficiencies and no compliance issues with the district’s financial operations.

The board of trustees also recognized several students, community members, and leaders during the meeting. Since January is School Board Recognition Month across the state of Texas, Brenham HS Principal Joe Chandler took a moment to thank the board for their work:

The board also recognized All State Band and Choir Students. Troy Freeman, a member of the Brenham High School Varsity Choir, will perform with the Texas All-State Choir in San Antonio, Saturday, February 11th.
