Brenham City Council members Danny Goss and Keith Herring at the ICSC Conference.

City of Brenham staff and community partners in economic development are currently attending the ICSC Texas Deal Making Conference in Dallas.

The intent and purpose of the conference is to network and connect with potential developers to attract additional retail to the Brenham market with the possibility of developing a multi-pad sites for retail in our community.

The group is hoping to gain insight on current industry issues and market the community to attract retail opportunities which have been identified the by services of The Retail Coach.

In May, the City engaged the Retail Coach to provide an update analysis.  The new data related to our trade area which covers a population of over 60,000 within a 20 mile radius includes a $1Billion in potential sales and actual dollars spent in the community for retail is $484 Million. Our leakage is over $534 Million in the identified trade area. Given these population centers, it is not surprising the traffic count in Brenham on US 290 is more than 31,000 vehicles per day. The retail opportunity/gaps include retail sales for eating and drinking places have potential sales of $1,019,784,300 and actual sales are $484,789,232. The opportunity/gaps for grocery stores total $117,146, 205 and actual sales are $47,855,719. Opportunity/gaps for sporting goods have  potential sales of nearly $20,269,945 and actual sales are $2,907,456 in our retail community.
