CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS INCREASED TAX RATE THURSDAY

  

The Brenham City Council is expected to approve the proposed an increased tax rate when they meet Thursday afternoon.

During the regular session of the council meeting, the council is expected to adopt a 50.7-cent tax rate per hundred dollars valuation.  That rate is 3.4-cents higher that the current rate and 1.6-cents higher than the 2014 tax rate.

The tax rate would help fund the proposed $60.4-million proposed budget for the next fiscal year.

The City Council meeting Thursday will begin later than usual.  The meeting has been moved to 4pm Thursday afternoon.  At the usual 1pm start time, a public hearing will be held in the city council chambers.

The hearing is for a Specific Use Permit to allow a business to display and store retail merchandise outside.  Krissie Zorn has requested the permit for a gardening store she has planned to locate at 2600 North Park Street, at the entrance to Scenic Estates.  She plans have plants and mulch for sale outside the retail store.

Currently, businesses located in areas zoned B1 business / residential mixed are prohibited from displaying or storing merchandise outside.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council is expected to:

Approve a resolution of No Objection for an application for housing tax credits for the rehabilitation of Northview Village in Brenham.

Review the second quarter financial report for fiscal 2015-16.

Approve the purchase of furniture for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, seven body armor vests for the Brenham Police Department and equipment for the Skateboard Park at Firemen’s Park.

Approve hangar space for Aviators Plus LLC at the Brenham Municipal Airport.

The City Council meets at 4:00 in the council chambers at the City Hall on West Vulcan Street in Brenham.
