ELIOT ALLEN NAMED LONE FINALIST FOR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

The Brenham Independent School District is announced this (Thursday) afternoon that Eliot Allen has been selected as the lone finalist for the position of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Brenham.  Allen has 24 years of coaching experience, and has served as Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Stratford High School in Spring Branch ISD for the past 16 years. Allen will be recommended for hire to the Brenham ISD Board of Trustees meeting Monday.  That meeting is scheduled for noon and has been relocated to Brenham High School in lecture rooms 111-113.

Allen began his coaching career in Brownwood, Texas where he coached football and track. He later moved to Hull-Daisetta High School where he coached football, basketball, and track. In 1997, Allen went to Giddings High School to serve as linebacker coach, defensive coordinator, and head powerlifting coach. He helped Giddings to two playoff appearances, including a state semi-final appearance. During his time at Stratford High School, Allen compiled an overall record of 118 wins and 62 losses. He broke a 13 year playoff drought at Stratford and has been in the playoffs for 12 straight years.

Allen served as President of the Greater Houston Coaches Association Board in 2005, and has been a member of the Houston Touchdown Club Player of the Year selection committee since 2012. Allen also served on the THSCA Board of Directors from 2013-2016. He has coached a number of well-known college and pro football players including Andrew Luck, Sam Miller, Jeremiah Briscoe, and Jordyn Brooks.

The process to select the new Brenham ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach began last month. A committee of district administrators and community members was developed to screen and interview applicants. A community and staff forum was held at Brenham High School on March 7, and a student forum was convened on March 26. A profile of the new candidate was developed using information collected from these meetings. Over forty five applicants expressed an interest in the position.

“The hiring process focused on competency, consistency, and character for the next Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of Brenham ISD,” said interview committee member Dr. Heather Thielemann. “A thorough process of long hours of initial interviews, committee discussions and second round interviews with more in-depth, detailed questions revealed the candidate with exceptional experience and a heart for Brenham. Coach Allen will lead our athletic teams to compete with unlimited potential in Texas athletics.” "The Brenham ISD community can take great pride in the tremendous talent of the candidates wanting this position,” said Matt Bentke, member of the district interview committee. “I am proud to have served with this committee, and proud of the courageous, respectful and thoughtful way this process was handled to ensure the success of BISD students and athletics for many years."

Eliot Allen is a 1989 graduate of Seagraves High School in Seagraves, Texas where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma where he played football and ran track. Allen graduated from OPSU in 1993. He and his wife, Katie, have two children. Daughter Kelcy is a sophomore at Texas State University, and son Hayden is an 11th grader.
