HOUSTON JURY GIVES DEATH SENTENCE TO KILLER

A Houston jury has given the death sentence to a man convicted of killing a Bellaire police officer.

After 12 hours of deliberation over two days, a jury this (Tuesday) afternoon sentenced 23 year old Harlem Lewis III to death.  Lewis was found guilty last week of the capital murder of Bellaire police officer Jimmie Norman and auto body shop owner Terry Taylor.  Defense attorneys had asked for a life sentence without parole, saying Lewis has an IQ in the mid 70’s.  On December 24th of this past year, Lewis fled from Norman who was trying to make a routine traffic stop.  During a confrontation, Lewis shot Norman in the head, and then shot Taylor in the neck when he came to Norman’s assistance.
