PENA TRIAL POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 8TH IN AUSTIN CO.

  

The trial for former Austin County Tax Assessor-Collector Marcus Pena has been postponed until March 8th.

Pena plans to plead guilty to charges of theft of property between $150,000 and $300,000, and misappropriation of fiducial/financial property of the same amount.  His trial before visiting Judge Dwight Peschel was scheduled to begin last Monday at the Austin County Courthouse.  However, the Texas Attorney General’s Office says some witness issues arose, causing the delay until March 8th.  Pena has requested that the trial and punishment be decided by the judge instead of by a jury.
