SENATOR KOLKHORST ISSUES STATEMENT ON HURRICANE HARVEY

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst issued a statement late Thursday night in regards to Hurricane Harvey…

“After spending the day on calls with the State of Texas Operations Command. Hurricane Harvey is a very serious, life-threatening storm projected to hit the heart of our coastline in Senate District 18 likely causing catastrophic damage.

Hurricane Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 15 to 30 inches. The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline.

Please heed the orders and warnings of your local governments, emergency personnel and law enforcement.  Stay updated and informed through your local news and radio stations.  Evacuate if you are in the mandatory evacuation area.

Senate District 18 lost far too many lives in the floods of April and May in 2016. Remember, turn around, don't drown. If you reside inland and have family or friends that reside on the coast, please offer to shelter them. Finally, I ask everyone to pray for the safety of our people and our area.

Lois W. Kolkhorst
State Senator
