FINAL TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY RATINGS RELEASED FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS

The Texas Education Agency has released accountability ratings for school districts across the state of Texas.

In the local area, schools in Giddings, Caldwell, Bellville, and Sealy independent districts scored the “Met Standard” requirement.

After having their accreditation status revoked in 2015, Snook Independent School District improved their scores significantly. Snook Secondary School and Snook Elementary School both achieved the “Met Standard” level necessary for the school’s probationary period to be revoked.

Superintendent Brenda Krchnak says that their success with the new ratings comes from a new approach in adressing students:

Krchnak hasn't recieved official word from the TEA yet, but she believes with these standards met the probationary period will end soon, the TEA monitor will be removed, and the district will be restored to fully accredited.

Somerville ISD is at risk of losing their accreditation status with the Texas Education Agency unless they make improvements. Low scores have led the state to change the district’s standing from “Improvement Required” to “Accredited-Warned”. If the problems persist, the next step would be for the TEA to change the district status to "Accreditation Probation,” or in the worst case, change the status to "Accredited-Revoked."

In Navasota, the Independent School District received an “Improvement Required” rating. While Navasota High School, W.B. Bizzell Academy, and High Point Elementary received the “Met Standard Rating”, three of the district’s schools were issued an “Improvement Required” rating.

Navasota Junior High scored an “Improvement Required” with a score of 53 out of 60 in Student Achievement and a 24 out of 26 in Closing Performance Gaps. John C. Webb Elementary is rated “Improvement Required” with a score of 49 out of 60 in Student Achievement and a 22 out of 28 for Closing Performance Gaps. Brule Elementary also rated at “Improvement Required with a 47 out of 60 for Student Achievement, a 29 out of 32 for Student Progress, and a 22 out of 28 for Closing Performance Gaps.

Hempstead Independent School District scored a “Met Standard” rating for their district. However, Hempstead Middle School is rated “Improvement Required” with a 50 out of 60 for Student Achievement and a 23 out of 26 score for Closing Performance Gaps.

Both Brenham and Burton School Districts have received passing marks in the 2016 accountability ratings. However, both local school districts had a campus that was rated as “Improvement Required”.

Alton Elementary School students did not meet the score of 60 for student achievement, scoring 57.  Alton also fell below the student progress minimum standard of 32, scoring 24. Burton High School was rated as “improvement needed”.  Students there scored 29 on the index for closing performance gaps, while the minimum standard is 30.
