TWO STUDENT SENATORS IN HOT WATER AT A&M

Two members of the Texas A&M Student Senate are facing under fire after a group text message insulted a student leader's looks and contained comments joking about sexual assault.

Student Body President Hannah Wimberly presented screenshots of a text conversation before the Student Senate by at its Wednesday meeting.

In the text, participants criticized Wimberly’s appearance, posting a photo of her with the caption "Make Aggie Girls Hot Again," and comparing her sister to a pig.

Wimberly's sister is Senior Class President Claire Wimberly.

The group message, labeled "Sharp's Army" in an apparent reference to Chancellor John Sharp, included current student senators Taylor Baumann and Nick Page, who had served as student services chair before being voted out of the position during the meeting.

A reference also was made in the conversation to another member of the executive branch of the student government who recently shared with the senate she had been sexually assaulted.

Laylan Coplin, vice chancellor of marketing and communications for the A&M System, said Sharp "was unaware of 'Sharp's Army' and has no connection to it."
