TxDOT URGES CAUTION AS ARCTIC FRONT HITS SUNDAY

Forecast are calling for a big push of cold, winter air to reach the Brazos Valley this weekend.

In preparation, crews with the Texas Department of Transportation are using brine and salt water, to pretreat state maintained bridges, overpasses, and spots that could freeze this weekend.

TxDOT is urging drivers to follow some precautions of they experience any winter weather conditions:

  • Reduce speed. Do not use cruise control.
  • Maintain at least three times the normal following distance on ice.
  • Watch carefully for personnel and equipment treating roadways, and stay at least 200 feet back from road crews.
  • Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, and overpasses.
  • Carry extra warm coats, gloves and boots in case you get stranded.
  • If you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes. Steer into the direction of the skid.

Motorists can obtain travel information by visiting drivetexas.org or calling (800) 452-9292.
