WASHINGTON COUNTY VETERANS SECURE THE LAST F111A AIRCRAFT

After over 2 years of effort, the Washington County Veterans Association has succeeded in obtaining the last F-111A aircraft in the Air Force inventory.  Representatives from the Veterans Association and the City of Brenham signed documents today (Tuesday) securing the aircraft.  It will go on permanent display in Henderson Park in Brenham.  The Vietnam era fighter/bomber will be on permanent loan from the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio.

The aircraft is currently in Nevada and needs to be restored before it is put on display.  Several local companies as well as individuals have donated funds toward the restoration.  Those wishing to participate are asked to contact Don Holley at 830-3980, Joe Barham at 337-4640 or any member of the Washington County Veterans Association.  The aircraft is expected to arrive from Nevada by the end of September.

  1. While I like the idea of getting the aircraft here, I don’t like the place that was chosen for it to be placed, hopefully they will have some type of security fence around it!

  2. You can view this as a “tool of war”, I prefer to view it as a “tool of peace”. As a veteran I am very proud of my service as most veterans are. We are not war mongers, quite the opposite.
This is a beautiful bird and in its day was the one of the most technologically advanced aircraft in existence. I had the privilege to see this aircraft in flight and that sight still has an impact on me yet today. Three F111’s flying one behind the other, the first with wings swept all the way back, second with wings swept half way and the third with wings in forward position. Not something you see every day even when in the military.
I commend the Washington County Veterans Association for their efforts in securing this aircraft for Brenham. Maybe the next time we can get an aircraft carrier. Just so you know, veterans also pay taxes.

  3. Tools of war are the reason you can do your normal day to day routine. It’s a symbol of the past that gave us freedom. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it

  4. Lovely, paying homage to the tools of war. Liability insurance, etc. at the taxpayers expense. Just keeps getting better and better…..

    1. Without those “tools of war” that you seem so opposed to, you might not have the opportunity to speak your mind in opposition to this decision. Be glad you live in a country that has such a strong military or move to North Korea.

        1. I wouldn’t say ironic. 3reds’ suggestion doesn’t even make sense. Presumably he meant Switzerland, or Sweden, which don’t have strong militaries, not North Korea, which most certainly does.
