BUCS VOLLEYBALL CLOSES OUT TOURNEY WITH WIN

Buccaneers finish with a 2-3 record at San Jacinto tournament

PASADENA, Texas – Looking to close out the San Jacinto College Military Classic on a high note, Blinn College volleyball made minimal mistakes and swept Brookhaven College 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Pasadena.

The Buccaneers earned a split for the day with the Brookhaven victory after falling 3-1 to North Central Texas College to open the day. Blinn closes the tournament with a 2-3 record and are now 4-5 overall.

North Central 3 – Blinn 1

North Central played a strong defensive match and forced Blinn to either earn its points or make an error as North Central did enough to grab the 3-1 victory by the score 27-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-20.

Danusia Sipa Borgeaud led Blinn with eight kills and 20 digs. Paola Maria Salas Adorno and Ashleigh Traylor each had seven kills, while Adorno added 20 digs. Kylee Kaaihue led the Buccaneers with 20 assists.

North Central was able to jump out and grab the first two sets but the scores were close in both sets. Blinn was able to battle back for the third set but it was North Central clinching the match in the fourth set.

“I feel like North Central played well defensively and forced us to make errors,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “We did have some players step up for us coming off the bench.”

Blinn 3 – Brookhaven 0

Blinn did a much better job of eliminating mistakes in the final match of the game and swept Brookhaven 3-0 by the score 25-14, 25-15 and 25-19.

Adorno put together another solid match with 13 kills and 14 digs. Alexis Kingston finished with 10 kills and 10 digs. Ally Lanik came up big with 31 assists and 14 digs in the win.

“I like that it was a long weekend of playing volleyball but we still had enough in us to manage our side of the net and finish with a win,” Mader said.

Blinn will open Region XIV play Sept. 6 on the road against Wharton County Junior College at 6 p.m.
