WASHINGTON CO. 911 OFFERS ONLINE FORM TO REPORT CONTROLLED BURNS

  

Washington County 911 is reminding residents of the tools available to them for reporting controlled burns.

Last year, the 911 department created an online controlled burns form that allows citizens to fill out the date and address for when and where the controlled burn will take place, what materials and how many piles are being burned, and contact information.

Interim 911 Director Raleigh Wellmann said following a soft launch in July 2025, the department has received approximately 150 submissions through the online form.  Of those, roughly 80 percent have been for brush burning, 13 percent for trash burning, and 7 percent for other types of controlled burns. 

Wellmann encourages residents who conduct controlled burns to use the online form, saying it helps the 911 team stay informed about active controlled burns throughout the county and can assist first responders in distinguishing a reported, controlled burn from an unexpected or potentially dangerous fire. 

The form is accessible through the county’s social media pages and on the county website, under the “Burn Ban Status” quick link.  The link to the form can be copied and shared.

When a burn ban is in effect, the online form is paused so that new submissions cannot be made while the ban is active.

If anyone is unable to complete the online form, they can continue to report controlled burns by calling the county’s non-emergency line at 979-277-7373.
