WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE SHERIFF’S VEHICLE PURCHASES

  

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be receiving a number of new vehicles after the County Commissioners approved a series of purchases during their meeting today (Tuesday).

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office were granted the authority to purchase a crime scene trailer. The Sheriff’s Office says the trailer is needed to maintain the integrity of evidence at crime scenes and in transit. The crime scene trailer will cost $25,403 and will be purchased using the Sheriff’s donations account.

The Sheriff’s Office was also granted the authority to purchase a 2016 Chevy Tahoe with money received from a vehicle insurance claim. The vehicle it is replacing was totaled during the May flooding. The insurance money will cover the entire cost of the vehicle and damaged equipment.

In addition, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was approved to purchase four Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs and one Ford Expedition using funds from its 2017 budget.

The Sheriff’s Office asked for authority to begin the purchasing process using the funds from the 2017 budget so that they can be put on the waiting list for the 2017 models. They submitted two bids for the purchase- one from the State and one from Appel Ford. Both bids give the same amount for the purchases, which is approximately $31,000 per vehicle.  The Commissioner Court voiced their support of doing business through the local company if possible.

In other business, the Commissioners Court approved a variance request from the subdivision rules and regulations for a land division fronting Crane Lane in Precinct 3.

The Washington County Commissioners will meet on Monday next week instead of holding their regular meeting on Tuesday. Many of the Commissioners will be at conferences on Tuesday the 11th, hence the change. The Commissioners Court will still meet at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse in Brenham on Monday.
