NAVASOTA POLICE RECEIVE GRANT FOR VESTS
The Navasota Police Department has been granted thousands of dollars in order to purchase new protective gear.
According to a press release from the Navasota PD, officers were awarded a grant of $12,000 from the office of Governor Greg Abbott to pay for Level IV body armor, a thick and strong grade of defensive wear against ammunition.
According to officials, this armor will protect officers in the event of a mass shooting, active shooter situation or other emergency involving heavy firearms.
The state paid for the transaction, requiring that the city match no funds.
Vests will be selected by the department and provided to the officer within the next few weeks.
