AUSTIN MAN BEING HELD IN LA GRANGE ON DRUG CHARGES
An Austin man is in custody in Fayette County facing drug charges.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy CJ Lehmann was called out to South Highway 71 near La Grange Sunday morning. The office had received complaints of numerous vehicles taking both lanes, and not allowing other motorists to pass. Sergeant Ron Naumann would later stop a 2004 GMC for driving erratically, which was part of around 30 vehicles travelling to see a car show in Houston.
Sgt. Naumann detected an odor of marijuana from the vehicle, and upon conducting a search, revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The driver, 20-year-old Bobby Joe Zarate of Austin, claimed ownership of all illegal substances. He was taken into custody on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Driver’s License, and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.
